Project Information
Project Overview
Client: The Plumbing Officials
Role: Lead Web & UI/UX Designer (BrandsbyRaven LLC)
Platform: Website design and development
Goal: Create a bold, modern online presence for a plumbing service company that builds trust, clearly presents services, and converts visitors into leads.
Challenge
The previous site likely lacked a strong brand identity and didn’t clearly differentiate the company in a crowded home-services market.
Navigation and service presentation were unclear; service pages didn’t guide the user toward taking action.
The visual design needed to feel professional and reliable, yet dynamic and up-to-date for a trades business.
The experience needed to be responsive and optimized for mobile since many users look up services on-the-go.
My Approach
Discovery & Audit: Reviewed existing site, competitor sites in plumbing/home-services, brand tone, and target user behaviours.
Visual Concept & Branding: Developed design direction with bold typography, strong service-oriented imagery, clear iconography, and a trustworthy colour palette (e.g., deep blues, crisp whites, accent colours) to reflect reliability and action.
Wireframes & Layouts: Created desktop and mobile wireframes for key pages (Homepage, Services, About, Contact/Request Quote) emphasising clear calls-to-action, service breakdowns, and visual hierarchy.
UI Design & Components:
Designed a consistent set of UI components: buttons, forms, icons, cards, image treatments.
Established a design system/style guide to ensure future pages scale easily and remain consistent.
Focused on readability, intuitive navigation, and lead-generation-friendly flows.
Handoff & Developer Ready: Delivered final designs in Figma with annotations, responsive versions, component library, and guidance for developer implementation.
Key Features & Deliverables
Redesigned main landing page, services overview, individual service detail pages, about page, contact / quote form page.
Responsive design: seamless experience on desktop, tablet, and mobile.
High-impact hero sections with photography or custom service visuals to establish brand authority.
Clean service presentation grids/cards, clear CTA buttons (“Request a Quote,” “Schedule Service,” etc).
Design system: predefined elements for forms, icons, buttons, spacing, typography — making site expansion future-proof.
SEO-friendly structure (clear headings, service categories) and optimized visuals for fast loading.
Results & Impact
The new site feels professional, trusted, and visually aligned with a service-business brand rather than a generic template.
Improved clarity of services and user flow likely leads to higher conversion of visitors into leads/requests (add real numbers if available).
Mobile-optimized experience means visitors on phones get a smooth, intuitive journey—important for local service searches.
The design system foundation supports future marketing pages, blog additions, or service expansion without redesign.
Reflection & Next Steps
This project reinforced the value of balancing “service business practicality” with modern design aesthetics: strong visuals + usability.
Next steps could include: A/B testing hero messaging, live-chat or lead capture optimization, tracking key conversions and refining based on analytics.
Maintenance: ensure service imagery remains updated, offer occasional design refreshes for seasonal promotions or service specials.
Tools & Technologies
Figma: Design, prototyping, component library.
Adobe Photoshop / Lightroom: Photo editing & service image treatment.
Platform / CMS: (Specify if WordPress, Wix, Shopify, etc, if known)
Google Analytics or other tracking: For monitoring user flow and conversion metrics.
Conclusion
The Plumbing Officials website design demonstrates how an effective UI/UX redesign can elevate a home-services brand — transforming from functional to professional, clear to compelling, and visitor to lead.
